Mumbai: 28-year-old doctor dies by suicide

MUMBAI: A 28-year-old doctor, studying first year Anaesthesia, died by suicide allegedly by injecting some unidentified substance.
When his colleagues broke open the door, they found him lying in the room on Monday night.
The victim, Dr Bhimsandesh Tupe, was rushed to the Nair hospital where he was declared dead.
The Agripada police have registered an accidental death case and are probing it.
Tupe was a first year student in Anaesthesia department at BYL Nair Hospital near Mumbai Central.
A police officer said that Tupe was on round in the wards at the Nair hospital and returned to his room in the hostel saying they can call him whenever needed.
When someone from the hospital called him up, he did not pick up the phone. Others also tried his number repeatedly but there was no response.
One person went to the hostel room and found that it was locked from inside. More people came and the door was broken open.
They found him lying and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead, said an officer. The reason behind the suicide is still not known.
“We did not find any suicide note. We searched his hostel room and found his phone but its PIN locked. We will now call an expert to open the phone and examine it,” added the officer.
The officer said that they found vial from the room. He had taken injection in both the hands, said police.
“Tupe’s brother, also a doctor, is attached to a city hospital. He told us that he had no complaints. The post mortem was carried out at the Nair hospital and the body was handed over to the family at around 10 am on Tuesday. They have taken the body to their hometown, Aurangabad,” the officer said.
Tupe had last week visited his ailing father in Aurangabad and returned to Mumbai on February 14.
“After coming to the city, he had spoken to his brother as well and was normal,” the officer said.
