We already know that Hyundai has been considering bringing its Genesis luxury brand to India starting with its SUV. There is a new development now, however, with spy shots of the G80 sedan being tested on Mumbai roads.

The Genesis G80 sedan first debuted for international markets in March 2020 and has now been spotted testing on the roads of Mumbai by auto publication, Autocar. According to the report, however, there is still no confirmation whether Hyundai will be bringing this car or, for that matter, its sedan lineup to India anytime soon.

The Genesis name originally started off as Hyundai’s luxury sedan on sale in international markets and in 2015, the company decided to make it a standalone sub-brand for luxury cars. Under the Genesis brand, there are currently three sedans and two SUVs. The G80 that was spotted testing sits between the smaller G70 and the top-of-the-line G90, competing with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series.

The car gets a similar 4-door coupe design as its predecessor, the trademark crest grille and split headlamp and tail lamp clusters. On the inside, you get a massive 14-inch infotainment unit, two-spoke steering wheel and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

As far as India goes, it isn’t clear whether the G80 sedan will be an offering or no, but the brand is considering India as a potential market, so we should get to see one of the SUVs here sooner or later.
