TARN TARAN: A day after poll violence in Patti, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday demanded resignation of chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
AAP MLA Baljinder Kaur, who was here to meet party leader Laljit Singh Bhullar, alleged that Congress goons had committed violence and indulged in vandalism during civic polls on February 14 and tried to sabotage the polling process. She also claimed that Congressmen had allegedly entered the polling booths with weapons and tried to drive out the voters who came to cast their votes. “When they were prevented from doing so, they opened fire,” she alleged.
Kaur said that it was duty of the chief minister to provide security to the voters.
"The chief minister had his goons attack the rights of those who trusted him and handed over the power to him. As the home minister of the state, it was his responsibility to stop the incident of violence so that people could vote fearlessly. But Amarinder failed miserably to maintain the law and order of the state and failed to stop the incidents of hooliganism so he should immediately resign as chief minister."
AAP worker Manbir Singh was allegedly injured during a scuffle between AAP and Congress workers on February 14. Manbir claimed to have sustained baton injuries on his head and bullet injuries on his thighs.
She met Manbir and other injured party workers to know about their conditions and assured them of all possible help by the party.
When contacted, senior superintendent of police DH Nimble said police would take action as per law. “Manbir has so far not even recorded his statement with police,” said Nimble.
