South African tennis star Lloyd Harris is laughing all the way to the bank following his best run at a Grand Slam event.
The 23-year-old's Australian Open campaign ended over the weekend when he lost his third round encounter to American wildcard Mackenzie McDonald.
It was the furthest Harris had gone at a major, improving on his second round showings at the French Open (2019 and 2020) and US Open (2020).
The current world No 91 earned a handy prize cheque of $AUD 215 000, which translates to just over R2.4 million.
Harris also bagged an additional $AUD 30 000 (R338 000) for competing in the men's doubles, where he and Austrian partner Julian Knowle lost 6-2, 6-4 to Australian duo Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis over the weekend.
Harris will move past Kevin Anderson as the top-ranked South African when the ATP rankings are updated following the Australian Open.
Anderson was knocked out in the first round by Italian 9th seed Matteo Berrettini.
