The rupee ended near day’s low of 72.69, still, 6 paise higher per dollar, amid buying seen in the domestic equity market.

It opened 13 paise higher at 72.62 per dollar against the previous close of 72.75 and gained 18 paise to trade at 72.57 at one point of time on Monday. However, it pared early gains to close at 72.69 against the greenback.

Oil prices rose to their highest in more than a year on Monday, after a Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said it intercepted an explosive-laden drone fired by the Iran-aligned Houthi group, raising fears of fresh Middle East tensions.

Hopes for more U.S. stimulus and an easing of coronavirus lockdowns helped support the rally, after prices gained around 5% last week. Global benchmark Brent Crude was trading 1.255 higher at USD 63.21 per barrel.
