State colleges: Utah women’s basketball team goes cold in second half of 66-49 loss to USC

After leading by four points at halftime, the Utah women’s basketball team scored just 16 points in the second half and fell to USC 66-49 in a Pac-12 game Sunday at the Huntsman Center.
Niyah Becker led Utah (5-13, 4-13 Pac-12) with 13 points, Brynna Maxwell had 12, and Kemery Martin added 10 to go along with five rebounds and a career-best six assists.
Utah shot 36 percent from the floor and 41 percent from 3-point range in the first half to lead 33-29 at intermission.
The second half was a different story as Utah committed 12 of its 17 total turnovers in the third and fourth quarters while shooting just 21 percent from the floor and 8 percent from beyond the arc. Utah didn’t get on the board until the 4:54 mark of the third quarter with USC going on a 12-0 run during that time span to take a seven-point lead.
Utah scored just seven points in the fourth quarter with USC going on a 15-0 run.

Endyia Rogers scored a game-high 17 points for USC (10-8, 8-7).
Women’s volleyball
No. 7 Utah volleyball stayed undefeated with a five-set win (24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13) over USC in the Huntsman Center.
Dani Drews led Utah (8-0) with 21 kills, Kenzie Koerber had 14 and Zoe Weatherington had 10.
The teams went point-for-point through the fifth set until Utah won three of four points to go up 13-11. Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres got the kill giving Utah its second match point of the afternoon, and then a couple of points later, Phoebe Grace got the match-winning kill.
