AHMEDABAD: Gujarat chief minister
Vijay Rupani tested positive for Covid-19, said a hospital where the CM is admitted.
On Sunday, Rupani fainted on stage while addressing a rally in Vadodara for the upcoming civic polls in the state, following which he was flown to Ahmedabad and admitted to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre (UNMICRC).

“The CM underwent ECG, 2D echo, blood and other tests after he was brought to Ahmedabad on Sunday night. He also underwent RT-PCR test, the result of which arrived positive on Monday morning,” said deputy CM Nitin Patel.
The infection is mild, and his condition is stable. He would be under medical observation for the next five to seven days, said Patel.
Two other senior leaders of BJP – Kutch MP Vinod Chavda and general secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsaniya – have also been tested positive for Covid-19, Patel added.
“Chavda has been admitted in UNMICRC five days ago and his condition is stable, whereas Dalsaniya has mild infection and he is under treatment,” he said.
CM Rupani doesn’t have any major comorbidities and the collapse on Sunday was primarily due to exhaustion as he was busy with poll tours and parliamentary board meetings.
“He had a mild fever for the past couple of days,” Patel said. “All those who have come in contact with him recently must get tested.”
Upon being asked about flouting the norms of social distancing and wearing masks at political rallies in the state, Patel claimed that they have instructed all party workers to adhere to the Covid guidelines.
“The compliance to Covid rules is good in Gujarat due to which we have recorded a dip in the cases,” Patel added.
The core committee meeting on curfew related to Covid-19 would meet at 3pm on Monday.
The state government had imposed the night curfew from 11pm to 6am as a preventive measure till February 15.
“We will issue guidelines by the evening,” said Patel.
