Alcott eyes seventh consecutive title after advancing to wheelchair final

Dylan Alcott is through to another Australian Open quad wheelchair final, with the dream of a seventh straight title in his home city tantalisingly close.

Paralympian Alcott had to get past 18-year-old Dutchman Niels Vink in the semis on Monday and was impressive in winning 6-4, 6-3.

The 30-year-old is hoping to combine his assault on wheelchair titles at this year’s majors with a push to another Paralympic gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

“He’s such a lovely young guy, 18 years old, he’s going to be kicking my backside extremely soon. So hopefully I retire by then,” Alcott said of Vink during his on-court interview.

“I think you could tell early my energy wasn’t there. I played a lot better in the back-end of the second set because I was bringing that energy.

“I’m so glad to get through. I feel really lucky to be doing this at the moment. Obviously with everything going on in the world, I really do feel lucky.”
