Greater Noida: GNIDA is setting up a mobile application through which the two dozen employees posted in the health department will be able to monitor the compliance of waste generators under the Solid Waste Management Rules.
Challans will be issued to the bulk waste generators in a transparent manner. The app will be used to click pictures, record videos and geo-tag the location where violation is detected and the offender will be identified.
The data collected through the app will be shared to the authority’s open-ended GIS platform -- OneMap. Additional chief executive officer of the authority Deep Chandra said, “Through the map installed in the app, residents will get to know the collection and treatment points of garbage. Unit-wise waste generation details of the bulk generators will also be shared over the app.”
Though GNIDA has already roped in a private agency for doorstep waste collection and transportation, health department officials will keep a tab on the agency’s performance through the app.
Surprise visits will be conducted to ascertain the daily waste generation quantity, status of segregation, disposal of hazardous waste and equipment and resources deployed for waste generation. An officer from the health department said, “We are also devising a mechanism to list down the material recovery points in residential blocks. So far, 40 sectors have been covered.”
The city generates around 400 tonne of waste on a daily basis.
