One of the three from the original eight teams, who are still bereft of a title, Kings XI Punjab are on the way to revamp before the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). If the reports are to be believed the Punjab-based team will be changing their name and logo before the auction for the 2021 IPL. Kings XI Punjab henceforth will be called Punjab Kings.

The franchise, which is owned by the Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, and co-owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul, are reportedly welcoming the new season of the IPL by revealing a new name on the eve of the IPL auction, February 17 in a reportedly grand launch.

The KL Rahul-led side, who had to win six out of seven games going into the second half of the IPL 2020, had a middling season as even though they won five games on the trot after that, their indifferent start of losing 6 games out of 7 had rendered them in a precarious position, from which they couldn't recover even after 14 games. KXIP released 9 players from their squad ahead of the auction next week.

Kings XI Punjab, however, will not be the first team to change their name or do the rebranding of their logo as sides like Deccan Chargers, changed their logo and jersey after the first season, Kolkata Knight Riders have also changed their logo, Royal Challengers Bangalore have changed their logo twice, while the Delhi team became the Capitals from Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants removed an 's' from their name and played as Supergiant in the 2017 season, after a disappointing campaign in 2016.

As the speculations gained steam around the Punjab team's potential name change next week, the users on social media started coming up with hilarious names. Some users gave names relating it to the ongoing farmers' protest in the national capital, while a few suggested options with the team's owner Preity Zinta's name in it.
