DJI may soon launch a new FPV (first-person-view) drone. The company is yet to announce the drone but it has already appeared in an unboxing video. The video also revealed a new controller and FPV goggles along with the quadcopter. The drone has been tipped for launch for few months now and few leaks also suggested what customers can expect. However, the new video gives away almost everything about the device including the design, features and accessories that can be used alongside.
The new drone is expected to be launched in March. The unboxing video was published on YouTube by "SpiderMonkey FPV". The video reveals some front- and downward-facing cameras that will probably help the drone to avoid any kind of obstacles. There's also a large main camera mounted on the drone's shell. The video also showed the battery of the device which is a tall rectangular brick.
The new controller revealed in the video has a gamepad-like design. It features grips for each hand and triggers at the back. This should allow easier navigation. The video also gives a glimpse of DJI's detachable joysticks that slot inside each handle. The battery that fits into the back of the drone is much large. This should ensure more flight time for the drone. It can be a significant improvement as FPV drones are often used in racing that need better flight times. Also included in the box is a portable power bank.
The changed design and a more familiar controller means that the new drone could be more user-friendly. It should make the new drone an interesting choice for beginners. Having said that, the FPV drones are usually considered harder to maneuver as they are faster in the air and quite sensitive to control.
The drone market is finally gaining some momentum with multiple players expected to bring their new products in this category. The FPV drones are gaining popularity in racing and that offers a potential market to DJI. Meanwhile, Sony also entered the market with its drone Airpeak that was unveiled last month during CES 2021. Featuring the in-house Alpha mirrorless camera, the AirPeak drone is aimed at content creators including videography and photography enthusiasts.
