Vodafone Idea reported marginal -1.76% fall in total revenues for the Dec-20 quarter on consolidated basis at Rs10,894cr. On a sequential basis, the revenues were up marginally by 0.95%. The top line has been under pressure for Vodafone Idea as it has been consistently losing customers to Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio in the telecom and wireless business.
However, the average revenues per user or ARPUs of Vodafone have gone up in the last few quarters in tandem with the other telecom players. That has made up for the loss of customers and managed to keep the revenues at a flat level.
The consolidated net loss for the Dec-20 quarter narrowed by 30% to Rs-4,532cr compared to Rs-6,432cr in the Dec-19 quarter. Lower losses were largely on the back of lower employee benefit expenses as well as lower license fees and spectrum charges. Due to the cash crunch, Vodafone almost halved its expense on advertising and customer acquisition.
However, finance charges have gone up due to higher borrowers but other expenses were subjected to cost controls. As a result, the net loss for the Dec-20 quarter considerably narrowed on a yoy basis and also on a sequential basis.
