MUMBAI: A motorcyclist was killed and pillion rider was injured after the two-wheeler rammed into a truck parked on the Western Express Highway at Andheri East on Saturday.
Police said the truck driver was negligent as he had parked the vehicle for offloading material for Metro construction without taking any precautions as to the safety of passing motorists.
The driver, Jitendra Pal, 23, fled from the spot after the crash. He was tracked down and arrested on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 2.40pm on Saturday. The truck was offloading girders on a bridge on WEH. The motorcyclist, Pramod Kalekar, 42, and the pillion rider Mukesh Mishra, 28, are both Byculla residents. When they fell off from the impact of the crash, Pal made no effort to take them to a hospital and slipped away instead.
Andheri police visited the crash location and rushed Kalekar and Mishra to a hospital, where Kalekar was declared dead. Andheri police then registered a case of negligence and rash driving under IPC against Jitendra Pal.
