Northeast Frontier Railway to run special trains for local commuters

GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to run a few short distance special trains for convenience of local commuters.
Chief public relations officer of NFR, Subhanan Chanda, told TOI that the Railways has been increasing the number of train services in a graded manner. “We are hopeful that passenger train services will be fully operational from March. However, nothing has been confirmed as of now. The Assam government has also decided to discontinue mandatory testing at railway stations from March,” Chanda added.
He informed that about 50% trains are running and more will be added gradually.
The railway official also said that for convenience of local rail commuters, services of some short distance special trains will be resumed from this month.
“Among these short distances special trains, there will be two pairs of special trains from Rangiya to New Tinsukia and Ledo, one pair each of daily special trains between Lumding–Tinsukia and Guwahati–Dibrugarh Town, one pair of DEMU special between Siliguri and Dhubri and one pair of special train between Alipurduar and Silghat Town via Dhubri,” he said.
