GREATER NOIDA: Heeding to the long-pending demands of the villagers who gave up their land for the development of Greater Noida, GNIDA on Saturday decided to set up a skill development centre for them. The authority will also set up a separate department to streamline its working.
The centre will be established in the GNIDA office compound in Knowledge Park 4. Narendra Bhooshan,CEO of the authority, said, “It will be set up within the next 100 days and by the end of May, the first batch will be ready.”
The authority decided swiftly on this front as farmers affected by the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) had threatened to stop work in the absence of employment opportunities. The Greater Noida authority officials on Saturday held a meeting with senior officials of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, the agency executing the DMIC project, and sought their support.
Sharing the roadmap, Bhooshan said that four private universities have agreed to impart training. “It will be a joint venture of the government and private sector players. Preference will be given to college students and youngsters of 114 villages in Greater Noida and we will prepare them for jobs in the industrial sector,” he said, adding that short-term, mid-term and long-term training courses will be organised and the youths will be placed in automobile, construction, apparels and electronics sectors.
Meanwhile, villagers have welcomed the move and said that it was a high time the authority did something for them.
Manish Bhati of Kathehra village said, “The three development authorities have been taking over our land for decades. But they hardly did anything for us. We should be guaranteed proper rehabilitation under land acquisition Act. We’re now gradually getting our due.”
