Covid-19: How radio turned saviour in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Community Radio came closer to people during Covid by disseminating educational information and creating awareness about health and hygiene. Representatives of 19 community radios of the state shared their stories here on Saturday on the occasion of the World Radio Day.
The community radio broadcasters highlighted their best practices adopted during the pandemic through their presentations. They are reaching out to hinterland through songs, drama and discussions.
Radio Namaskar’s NA Shah Ansari said they were disseminating important information regarding the Covid-19 rules and guidelines during the lockdown time. “We were also fighting against fake news and misinformation during the Covid-19 time. We had launched campaigns against domestic violence, child marriage and violence against women during the lockdown time. We had connected the migrant labourers with quarantine centres and also provided them with information about MGNREGA work,” he added.
Radio Surabhi at Daspalla in Nayagarh district had started Sikshya Surabhi programme on July 1 to provide inclusive education to students, especially the visually-impaired ones.
