Capt, Cong goons assassinated democracy in municipal bodies’ elections : Cheema

Chandigarh, Feb 14 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that booths were captured and

AAP workers were attacked by "Congress goons" at various places across the

state during municipal bodies’ elections on Sunday and said chief minister Captain Amarinder

and "Congress goons" have assassinated democracy.

Senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly Harpal Singh Cheema, said Sunday that democracy was being murdered across Punjab today. He said Captain Amarinder Singh had failed to deliver on his promises to the people and was now assassinating democracy. “Realising his personal responsibility, Captain Amarinder should resign from the post of Chief Minister,” he added.

Mr Cheema said the AAP had already expressed its suspicion that the Congress could go to any lengths to rig the elections and in this regard had also met the State Election Commission and submitted a memorandum, demanding the deployment of paramilitary forces in the local bodies’ elections.

He claimed that an Aam Aadmi Party volunteer was shot at in Patti while a volunteer was illegally arrested by the police added that similarly, in Tarn Taran, Rajpura, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Abohar, Jalalabad, Samana, Dhuri, Bhikhiwind and at many other places, the Congress goons tried to seize the booths.
