NZ recall Kate Ebrahim, Thamsyn Newton for T20Is against England

Auckland, Feb 14 (UNI) Kate Ebrahim and Thamsyn Newton earned recalls as New Zealand on Sunday announced a 13-member squad for the upcoming women's T20Is against England, starting March 3.

Both Ebrahim and Newton were recalled to the White Ferns squad on the back of impressive performances in the recently-concluded Super Smash.

Ebrahim, who last made a T20I appearance for New Zealand in October 2018, made a 40-ball 45 for Canterbury in the Super Smash final against Wellington on Saturday, and finished as the tournament's fifth-highest run-getter.

Newton's last T20I appearance came as far back as November 2017 against Pakistan. Representing Wellington in the Super Smash, she scored 292 at a strike rate of 101, and also claimed seven wickets with her medium pace bowling, at an economy rate of 7.05.

"Kate and Thamsyn have worked hard and proven their ability in the Super Smash this season," said selector Jason Wells.

"Kate has been excellent with the bat for the Magicians and yesterday's match-winning knock in the Grand Final capped off a superb Super Smash campaign for her.

Thamsyn is an athletic cricketer whose all-round skills have served the Blaze well in their T20 campaign," he added.

The three T20Is will be played on March 3, 5, and 7 alongside the Black Caps' T20I series against Australia.

Squad: Sophie Devine (c), Kate Ebrahim, Maddy Green, Hayley Jensen, Leigh Kasperek, Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Katey Martin (wk), Thamsyn Newton, Hannah Rowe, Amy Satterthwaite (vc), Lea Tahuhu
