Traffic warden hit by truck, dies on the spot

Gurgaon: In yet another hit-and-run accident in the city, a traffic warden died after a speeding truck ploughed into him at Panchgaon Chowk. Attempting to flee the scene, the truck driver rammed the vehicle into a nearby roadside kiosk. He then fled the spot, leaving the truck behind.
Prem Singh, the victim, and fellow traffic warden Ganga Prasad Sahu were managing traffic at Panchgaon Chowk on the Manesar-Dharuhera side of NH-48 on Friday morning when the truck coming from the Manesar side hit him from behind. Prem, who was thrown a few metres away, died on the spot, police said.
“We were managing traffic at Panchgaon Chowk since 8am on Friday. Around 11.30am, the speeding truck hit Prem who was on the Manesar-Dharuhera side of the Delhi-Jaipur expressway. The driver tried to flee but lost control of the truck and crashed into the nearby kiosk, causing the vehicle to stop,” Ganga Prasad said.
The impact of the collision was such that Prem, originally from UP, was thrown a few metres away. “An ambulance was immediately arranged to rush Prem to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He had sustained critical injuries and probably died on the spot within minutes of the crash,” he said.
“We could not nab the truck driver as he fled the spot abandoning his vehicle,” Ganga Prasad added.
On the basis of his complaint, a case has been registered against the unknown driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (accident death) and 427 (causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code at the Bilaspur police station.
ASI Birender Sigh from the Bilaspur police station said after receiving a call he had rushed to the spot and took Prem to the hospital. “The body has been handed over to his family after an autopsy,” said Singh. “We have seized the truck and are trying to find out the owner and the driver of the truck with the help of its registration number. We are also checking CCTV footage of the area.”
On January 18, a pilot of a private airline died when his car was hit by a speeding truck on Dwarka Expressway.
