Australian Open 2021 Day 7 Live Updates: Serena Williams has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2021 after her win against seventh seed A Sabalenka. The 39-year-old veteran came back after losing the second set. The score ended 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 in favour of 23 times Grand Slam champion.

Serena emerged triumphant in the first set and she displayed her trademark game to not give Sabalenka any chance in the first set. The American took the first set 6-4.

In the second set, Sabalenka managed to change her fortunes around and she gave Serena no respite. Sabalenka managed to gain a 5-1 lead in the second set and Serena faced an uphill task. In the end, Sabalenka managed to take the second set 6-2.

In the third and final set, Serena had managed to take a 4-2 lead, but Sabalenka came back strongly and the scoreline was levelled at 4-4. In the end, Serena managed to maintain her composure and she sailed into the quarter-finals.

The 39-year-old Serena needs one more major win to equal Margaret Court’s record Grand Slam tally. She has not added to her Grand Slam tally since beating her sister Venus in the Australian Open final in 2017.

Title favourite and 3rd seed Naomi Osaka also came back from the brink to defeat Gabrine Muguruza of Spain at the Australian Open 2021  shocked Osaka in 3 sets thriller. Osaka was down a match point in the 3rd set but pulled back to beat the 14th seed Spaniard 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to make it to the Aus Open 2021 Quarterfinals.

Osaka will now take on giant killer Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei in last 8 battle. The 35-year-old Hsieh has made it to the Aus Open Quarterfinals for the first time. The Japanese professional has gone on to win the title, every time she has reached quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.

In another contest, Su Wei Hsieh continued her dominating run in the Australian Open defeating 20th seed Marketa Vandrousova in straight sets. She will be next face Naomi Osaka in the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, A Karatsev has stunned 20th seeded Felix Auger Aliassime to enter the round 8 of the Australian Open 2021. He came back after straight-sets losses to win the thrilling five sets contest. The scorecard ended 3-6,1-6, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4 in favour of the Russian.
