Ashwin bags four, England tottering at 106 for 8

Chennai, Feb 14 (UNI) India's Off spinner R Ashwin claimed
four wickets and debutant left armer Axar Patel chipped in
with two wickets, to torment England who were tottering at
106 for eight at tea on the second day of the second cricket
test here today.
At the break, wicket-keeper batsman Ben Foakes was batting
on 23 (80 balls, 3x4) as England trail by 223 runs and still
need to make 23 runs to avoid the follow-on.
India's dominance continued in the session, as Ashwin got
the key wicket of Ben Stokes (18, 34 balls, 1x4), who missed
a half volley and was bowled.
Ben Foakes and Ollie Pope then managed to stitch togethera
35-run partnetrship for the sixth wicket in 14.5 overs. Despite,
the ball turning sharply and bouncing, the duo tackled the
spinners well.
Indian captain Virat Kohli persisted with Ashwin and Axar
and also used left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav for
six overs.
As both Foakes and Pope kept the spinners at bay, Kohli
introduced pacer Mohd Siraj, who struck in his first ball,
when Pope gloved to keeper Pant, who dived to his left
like a football goalie and plucked the catch.
Two more wickets close to the tea break pegged England
further back. Experienced Meen Ali edged to Rahane at
first slip off Axar Patel as the ball turned sharply, and Olly
Stone lobbed a simple catch to Rohit Sharma at short
midwicket off Ashwin.
