
PM Modi in Tamil Nadu, Kerala Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the new developmental projects inaugurated as “symbols of innovation and indigenous development,” and a step towards “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” Addressing a gathering at Jawaharlal Stadium in Chennai, Modi also appreciated Tamil Nadu farmers for “record food grain production and use of water resources.”
On the second anniversary of the 2019 Pulwama Attack ,the Prime Minister paid his respects soldiers who lost their lives. “No Indian can forget this day. We pay homage to all the martyrs we lost in that attack.,” PM said.
Before his address, Modi inaugurated and flagged off the train on the extended Phase 1 Chennai Metro Rail Project, completed at a cost of Rs 3,770 crore, and commissioned passenger services from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar. This project, Modi said, was completed on time despite Covid pandemic. Modi also laid the foundation stone for the extension, renovation and modernization of the Grand Anicut Canal System and the Discovery Campus of IIT Madras.
Earlier in the day, Modi handed over the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane during his visit to Chennai.
From Chennai, the prime minister will travel to Kochi at around 3:30 pm to launch projects in the presence of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.
In Kerala, Modi will dedicate to the nation the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP) of BPCL. It will produce acrylates, acrylic acid and oxo-alcohol, which at present are predominantly imported, and is expected to result in saving of about Rs 3,700-4,000 crore per annum in foreign exchange. The prime minister will dedicate to the nation Ro-Ro vessels at Willingdon Islands, Cochin. The International Waterway Authority of India will deploy two new Roll-on/Roll-off vessels between Bolgatty and Willingdon Island on National Waterway-3.
These projects “will add crucial momentum to the growth trajectory of these states and help hasten the pace of realizing full development potential,” PMO’s press release said on Saturday.

Further speaking on the rights of the Tamil Fishermen community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 1,600 fishermen have been released during his tenure. Modi also highlighted that currently no Indian fishermen are in Sri Lankan custody.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched upon the issue of Tamil rights saying that India has consistently taken up it with Sri Lankan leaders. “We want to make sure that they live with equality , justice, peace and dignity, Modi said. He also said that his government ensures that fishermen are released if apprehended by Sri Lankan authorities

For this, Modi said that “modern fishing harbours will come up in 5 centres including one in Chennai.”

Speaking on the defence potential in the state, Modi said,"One of the 2 defence corridors is in Tamil Nadu and it has already received an investment commitment of over Rs 8100 cr." Modi also introduced "indigenously designed and manufactured Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A)" as one of the latest additions to India's defence infrastructure.
