CHENNAI: Despite the opposition to the move to absorb around 700 guest faculty members in government colleges, the Directorate of Collegiate Education has called guest lecturers with more than five years of experience for certificate verification from February 15 to 18.
The certificate verification will take place at Central Polytechnic Campus at Taramani in Chennai. The certificate verification will take place for guest lecturers from Chennai, Vellore and Dharmapuri zones on February 15 and 16. For Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli zones, the verification will be held on February 17 and 18.
Among the guest lecturers, those who completed five years with PhD, NET, SLET, SET and CSIR qualification can participate in the certificate verification process. The guest lecturers should bring bona fide certificates from their respective colleges and id cards.
There are 4,000 guest lecturers working in 109 government arts and science colleges throughout the state. About 700 of them are having more than five years of experience as guest lecturers.
A week ago, the regional joint directors of collegiate education asked all government arts and science colleges to verify the experience and qualifications of guest lecturers and issue the integrated experience certificates. The colleges conducted certificate verification at the colleges.
Teacher aspirants alleged that the move would affect the equal opportunities for all candidates and affect the reservation in the recruitment.
"The guest lecturers were not properly appointed by following due procedures. So regularising them will affect the implementation of reservation. It will also lead to corruption and malpractices in the appointments," an aspirant said.
