Ajmer, Feb 13 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday alleged that the Modi government at the Centre has conspired to give 40 per cent of the country's business to their two corporate friends through the three agricultural laws at the expense of lakhs of small and marginal farmers.
"Sabse bada business krishi ka business hain... 40 lakh crore ka business hai aur 40 per cent population ispe nirbhar hai (The biggest business in India is agriculture... it is a Rs 40 lakh crore business and 40 per cent of the population depends on this business)," Mr Gandhi said while addressing a farmers' rally held at Roopangarh in Ajmer district during his two-day visit to Rajasthan.
With the contentious agri laws, farmers, small traders,labourers and those having farm produce-based small business will become unemployed, he claimed.
Mr Gandhi alleged that few big enterprises will keep grains, fruits and vegetables in large quantities as they want to expand their business throughout the country
"At present, about 40 per cent of the business of food grains, fruits and vegetables is in the hands of two big industrialists. After the implementation of the agricultural law, 80 to 90 per cent of agriculture business will be controlled," the Congress leader said.
Mandis (markets) will be of no use and farmers, fruit vegetable vendors, street vendors and small traders will lose their daily bread, he claimed.
Mr Gandhi also took part in a farmers’ tractor rally in Roopangarh. Visuals showed the Congress leader driving a tractor with a tricolour in front of it while a few other leaders seated beside him.
He was accompanied by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, AICC general secretary Ajay Maken, state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
