NEW DELHI: Politicians, members of various organisations, onlookers and mediapersons were seen making a beeline to Rinku Sharma’s house in Mangolpuri’s K-Block on Friday a day after the 25-year-old’s death due to stabbing came into the limelight. Though one of the accused, Nashruddin, lived in the same lane, his house was locked.
With scores of people gathering outside Sharma’s house, a few locals started managing the entry and exit. A few volunteers allowed mediapersons and other visitors to meet the family for some time.
Radha Sharma, Rinku’s mother, said, “We have no enmity with the family of the accused men and we used to greet each other often. My son was returning from a birthday party when a group of men attacked him late on Wednesday. He left his scooty and ran to our house. However, the group, which was armed with lathis and knives, followed him here. Despite my objections, Rinku opened the door and the men dragged him outside. They thrashed and then stabbed him. The assailants fled after severely injuring my son. My other son, Manu, was also injured.”
The family members alleged that Sharma was killed as the accused were annoyed with him over his involvement with the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. “Rinku was collecting donations for the Ram temple. Rinku had even donated blood when the wife of one of the accused had developed pregnancy-related complications,” claimed Radha.
Demanding justice for her son, Radha said, “I want police protection for my family and a government job for my other son.”
Among the politicians who met the family members were Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, MP Hans Raj Hans and AAP MLA Rakhi Birla. Members of VHP and other organisations like Shankarcharya Parishad also visited the family.
