Utah’s five GOP congressional representatives voted not to remove committee assignments from QAnon supporter Rep. Marjorie Greene. No surprise, since Utah’s GOP lawmakers voted against the second impeachment of former President Trump and do not hold him accountable for inciting the Jan. 6th insurrectionist mob.
Rep. Chris Stewart states, “I condemn the hateful comments Rep. Marjorie Taylor made prior to coming to Congress. They are abhorrent and do not represent the values or beliefs of the Republican Party.” But herein is the lie. These have become the values and beliefs of the “new” GOP. Let’s not forget that Rep. Stewart and Rep. Burgess Owens gave aid and comfort to America’s enemies when they voted to not certify the election results in certain states after the insurrectionist mob stormed the Capitol.
That was the goal of the Jan. 6th insurrectionists: To stop the certification of the election. And Stewart and Owens obliged the insurrectionists. The problem with the GOP is elected officials like Stewart and Owens are political cowards, afraid of being challenged in a primary if they don’t fall in line behind a wanna-be dictator like Donald Trump. The GOP is morphing into the American Nazi Party with its blind obedience to a former president who treated the Constitution like a roll of toilet paper and attempted a coup after losing a fair and free election.
If the GOP is going to become what it once was, it needs to have elected officials such as Stewart, Lee and Owens resign. America and certainly Utah deserve better leaders than what these three offer. Disgraceful, disgusting and dystopian that is the “new” GOP.
