CHENNAI: Durga Shankar Mishra, secretary, ministry of housing and urban affairs, on Saturday inspected the 9.05km phase-1 extension line from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar on Saturday ahead of its inauguration on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the line on Sunday morning. The 9.05km line has eight stations, including six elevated stations, out of which only seven stations will open on Sunday.
During the inspection, Mishra, who is also the chairman of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, reviewed various features like the multi-modal integration, passenger safety at Wimco Nagar and New Washermenpet metro stations.
In a release, CMRL said the secretary also inspected the various arrangements made for a hassle-free commute for the passengers post the commencement of operations on the line.
CMRL managing director Pradeep Yadav, director (finance) Sujatha Jayaraj, director (project) Rajeev Narayan Dwivedi, director (systems and operations) Rajesh Chaturvedi and other senior CMRL officials were present during the inspection.
