TRICHY: An Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) functionary and his two-year-old son died when a sport utility vehicle they were travelling in hit a retaining wall on the Keeranur bypass near Pudukottai in the early hours on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as K Ramar, 35, his son R Darshan. Ramar was Thiruvottiyur East branch secretary of the AMMK. Party general secretary T T V Dhinakaran condoled the deaths.
Six others travelling in the SUV sustained injuries in the accident that happened at Pokkankulam. The injured have been identified as M Balaiah, 68, B Sivakami, 22, B Lakshmi, 50, S Darvesh, 21, R Jayanthi, 25 and Nandini, 30. They were admitted to hospital.
The accident happened when they were going to Karaikudi from Chennai.
The Keeranur police registered a case.
