Gurgaon: A gang specialised in robbing executives of private companies has been busted by the crime unit of the Gurgaon police. Three of its members have also been arrested, officials said on Friday.
According to police, the gang — which was active in Gurgaon for the past few months — mainly targeted those executives who were entrusted with the job of carrying cash on behalf of their companies. With their arrests, police claimed to have solved at least five robberies.
The accused have been identified as Arun alias Pawwa, originally from UP, and Mohammad Ibran alias Imran and Vishal Patel, both from Bihar. While Arun was nabbed from Khandsa Road, Imran was picked up from UP’s Gorakhpur district and Vishal from his home state.
The arrests came in the wake of a probe into a robbery case registered at the Badshapur police station.
The crime dates back to January 16. On that day, Gurukripa Modak, a resident of Delhi’s Najafgarh who works with an auto component company, was robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh that he withdrew from a bank in the New Colony area of Gurgaon to pay the salaries of employees at Dhinga Motors in Begampur Khatola.
According to Modak’s complaint, three masked youths had intercepted his two-wheeler near the company’s gate. One of the youths subsequently hit Modak on the head with an iron road. As soon as he fell on the ground, the trio snatched his bag containing the cash, a laptop and a cheque book and sped away.
Sub-inspector Gunpal, in-charge of crime unit Sector 40, said they arrested Arun from Khandsa Road on February 7. And during interrogation, Arun revealed the names of his two associates.
Crime unit sleuths on Thursday arrested Imran and Vishal from UP and Bihar, respectively.
In fact, police had been tracking those who worked with Modak and were aware about his movement on the 15th or 16th of every month. “Arun was among them as he worked with Modak in the same company. He masterminded the plan and roped in two of his friends for the crime,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
To execute the robbery, the trio stole a two-wheeler from the Sadar bazaar area on January 15 and used the same bike for the crime the next day. After committing the crime, two had left Gurgaon. Cops said they were involved in four other cases of robbery.
