PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi has directed chief secretary Ashwani Kumar, who is also the chief vigilance officer (CVO), to conduct an inquiry into the distribution of financial assistance to beneficiaries from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) and submit a report within the next two week.
In a WhatsApp post, Bedi said she took cognizance of complaints that financial assistance from CMRF was “distributed to beneficiaries of certain area” under the disguise of an “illness”. Bedi also directed Kumar to request Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to conduct an urgent special audit of CMRF. Relief is for emergency and should not be a routine affair, she said. All BPL people now have access to free health care up to ?5 lakh per family a year under the PM’s healthcare scheme, she said. Hence, allocation from CM’s relief fund for treatment of ailments raised doubts of impropriety.
