Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) As the current state Assembly met for the last time today, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal exuded confidence that the BJP shall retain power in the ensuing state polls.
Replying to a debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor's speech, Sonowal said, "The BJP-led coalition government has performed well. There should not be any heartburn among the Opposition, but the fact is we will return to power."
"We will come back, let us work together, " he added.
He thanked Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami for giving him the opportunity to make the first speech in the new Assembly hall, which was inaugurated by Goswami earlier in the day.
The chief minister maintained that the government fulfilled its commitment to the inclusive, all-round growth of all sections.
He said, "Development has been fast-paced. We have tried to ensure that no legitimate demand goes unmet."
Highlighting that there has been no major communal strife or incidents of violence in the last four-and-half-year, Sonowal said the return of peace has further helped propel growth in the state.
He added that the government has been working to bring the people of all sections and parts together so that no one is left behind in the development narrative.
"Development has been possible as there is no corruption in our thoughts," he said, stressing that the government has acted tough against corruption at all levels.
Mentioning that COVID 19 pandemic threw up unprecedented challenges, Sonowal said the state was able to tide over it due to the combined efforts of everyone.
"The COVID-19 restrictions, however, from March to December took away valuable time from our government during which we could have engaged in more development work," he added.
Reiterating the government's commitment to take the administration to the people's doorsteps, Sonowal said he has himself been visiting every nook and corner of the state so that the government can be accessible to the people.
"We are working keeping in mind our prime minister's motto 'Sabka Saath, sabka vikash, sabka vishwas'," he added.
The chief minister further said the government has also been working on improving the state's transportation network with the ASEAN countries as Assam and North East are the contact points to the vast market of these countries.
