Letter: Bill that would get rid of concealed carry permits strikes fear

Utah is one of several more states weighing proposals this year that would allow people to carry concealed guns without having to get a permit, a trend supporters say bolsters Second Amendment rights but is alarming to gun-control advocates. The fact that our government just approved a bill that will no longer require permits to concealed carry guns and will decrease training that people get is very scary to me.
Despite a fund to prevent suicide, I still believe that if we can personally reach people, we will have better chances of decreasing suicide. Since the money will come from sales of concealed carry permits, there won’t be nearly as much opportunity compared to if every person who wanted to concealed carry had personal training on suicide prevention. I want  to know how this money will actually be used and whether it will really be effective.
Not only that, but as somebody still in high school, I still feel the threat of school shooters. Less regulation on guns only means more chances for them to be used maliciously. I would prefer to never experience a shooting at my school. As the article in The Tribune stated, firearm sales have increased dramatically, and this does nothing to ease my worries. I hope that Gov. Cox will see how unnecessary this bill is and how it will only cause more fear and danger.
