Govt to set up Jan Aushadhi kendra  at every block level: Minister

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) The Government is working towards establishing Jan Aushadi kendra at every block in the country to make quality medicines available at affordable rates, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday.



Responding to a question in the House, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya said till now, as many as 7,326 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened in 734 districts of the country where 700 quality medicines and 144 equipment are available at rates much lower than the market price.

He said that this scheme has been made keeping in mind the poor and about 25 lakh people are benefiting from it on a daily basis. The government is trying to open such centers at the block level.

The doctors, the Minister said, have been advised to prescribe generic medicines to the people and it has started. Efforts are on to provide maximum medicines at all centers.
