Massive 6.1 magnitude earthquake hits Amritsar, strong tremors felt across North India

A massive 6.1 earthquake hit Punjab capital city Amritsar on Friday night. The strong tremors were felt across North India. According to the National Center for Seismology, the jolt was recorded at around 10:34 pm. At the same time, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan, the National Center for Seismology said on Twitter. Several people took to Twitter to express their shock over the sudden tremors. Delhi-NCR, which comes under the high seismic zone, has experience several minor tremors in recent times.

According to the data reviewed by the FE Online, there were a series of moderate earthquakes that occurred in a span of last 10 hours on Friday. According to the latest update by the National Center for Seismology, the first tremor was reported at around 1 pm in Tajikistan. It was recorded at a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter Scale. What seems to be an aftershock, another tremor was felt in Tajikistan at 3 pm. The third earthquake was reported from Pakistan at around 8 pm on Friday. It was a moderate tremor recorded 4.3 at the Richter Scale. However, it was the last one that shook entire North India. Revised data says that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Tajikistan.
