Greater Noida: Farmers from four villages, who have been protesting outside the Greater Noida Authority’s office building in Knowledge Park IV since January 20, on Thursday threatened to disrupt work on the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
For the past fortnight, the protesters from Palla, Pali, Katehra and Chithehra villages have been taking turns to hold hunger strikes and female family members from the villages are also participating. However their demands have not been heeded to so far.
“If our demands are not met within the next fortnight, we will evolve a strategy to stop work on the corridor. We are being duped by the Greater Noida Authority officials,” said Manish Bhati, from Katehra village which has come under the impact of the project.
They are demanding for four times more compensation over the circle rate. The final compensation amount has not been decided yet, but the district administration has sent out feelers to the villagers that they will be paid in the range of Rs 3,500 per sqm, which is about two times of the prevailing circle rate in the area.
