More than two months after an 85-year-old woman’s body was found in an open well, her son has reportedly confessed to killing her. Devaiah, 40, allegedly told police he had murdered his mother and tried to pass it off as an accident by throwing her body in the well.

Anti-Corruption Bureau told to give chargesheets to Karnataka Lokayukta

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will transfer all chargesheets filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act to the Karnataka Lokayukta. BDA broker, three others nabbed for drug peddling

Four men, including an Ivory Coast national and a BDA broker, have been arrested for drug peddling. KS Layout police recovered cocaine and ecstasy tablets worth Rs 2.4 lakh from Mohammed Muzamil, 27, of Pulikeshinagar, Syed Shoiabuddin, 27, of Mysuru, K Ravikumar alias BDA Kumar, 46, of JP Nagar VII phase and Dosso Kalfia, from Ivory Coast. BDA Kumar owned a second-hand BMW that he reportedly purchased in 2019 for Rs 35 lakh.

Teacher held in KPSC’s FDA paper leak case

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru police on Thursday arrested a physical education teacher in connection with the Karnataka Public Service Commission’s First Division Assistant (FDA) recruitment question paper leak case. The suspect is Venkatesh, a cousin of Rachappa, who was already arrested in the case. Venkatesh and Rachappa are from Athani, Belagavi district. Rachappa was selected as second division assistant (SDA) and was waiting to get an appointment letter. Venkatesh is a physical education teacher in a residential school at Koratagere, Tumakuru district.

10-year jail for youth who kidnapped, raped minor

A special court for Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (Pocso) in Tumakuru on Tuesday held a 26-year-old man guilty of abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl in 2014 and awarded him 10-year rigorous imprisonment. A Lakshmana, resident of Nelagunte village near Tumakuru, also has to pay a fine of Rs 40,000. Besides Lakshmana, police had arrested and chargesheeted six others, including his father and other close relatives on charges of illegal detention of the girl. However, the court acquitted them.

Rowdy attacks constable, shot at

Yelahanka police on Thursday morning opened fire at a 27-year-old rowdy after he attacked a constable with a machete near Yelahanka New Town. Shabareesh alias Appi from JJ Nagar is allegedly involved in 22 criminal cases of which 14 are in Yelahanka police station. At 12.30am, Shabareesh and his associates—Imran, 26, and Murali, 21— stopped the car of Nagaraj and snatched his mobile phone, ATM card and Rs 700 before speeding away.

BBMP marshals included in vax drive

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to inoculate its team of marshals, who have been tasked with enforcing Covid-19 safety rules such as wearing masks while in public places and maintaining social distancing.When marshals were not included in the list of frontline workers, Col onel Rajbhir Singh, chief of the team of 250 marshals, was upset. “Marshals have been working relentlessly day and night amidst the pandemic,” he told TOI. “They are highly exposed to the virus so they need to get the jab.”

Duo who snatched mobile phones held in Bengaluru

Annapoorneshwarinagar police arrested two men for robbing mobile phones and recovered 15 handsets worth Rs 5 lakh from them. Probe revealed Prasanna Kumar and his associate Jagadish alias Jaggi, both residents of Kamakshipalya, targeted those who would be alone and talking on phone on desolate stretches. “Those talking on mobile phone will be less alert and snatching becomes easy,” the cops quoted the duo as sayingPolice also seized two autorickshaws used by the duo in the crimes.
