Tamil Nadu: Decomposed body of newborn found floating in well in Tenkasi

TENKASI: A decomposed new born baby was retrieved from a well near Sankarankovil in Tenkasi district on Friday.
A police officer said that the gender of the baby could not be identified as the body was highly decomposed.
The body has been sent to Tirunelveli government medical college and hospital for a post-mortem.
The baby’s body was found floating in an unused well at Balaji Nagar near Sankarankovil on Friday. Based on an alert, Chinnakovilankulam police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.
It is suspected to be a two-day old infant and that it could have been abandoned in the well five to six days ago.
Police were in the process of verifying birth of new born babies in the nearby villages and in government and private institutions. The police suspected that the baby might have been born to an unmarried couple and it was disposed by the mother or kin.
A case was registered and further investigations were underway.
