Life partially affected in Bengal following 12-hr Left-sponsored bandh

Kolkata, Feb 12 (UNI) A 12-hour statewide bandh called by the Left and other parties against the alleged police action on its activists during their march towards state secretariat Nabanna on Friday partially affected life in West Bengal.
The protesters blocked road and rail tracks at various locations in the state, hitting train services both in Eastern and South Eastern Railway.
Left party workers blocked train track at Kanchrapara railway station in Eastern Railway.
They also blocked railway tracks and roads in Malda, Barddhaman, Raiganj, Asansol, Dankuni and parts of Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts during the bandh that began at 6 am.
In Kolkata Bandh supporters damaged several cars as they tried to impose shutdown in Entally area.
According to latest reports, several members of the Communist Party of India (M) blocked Ghosh Para Road in Shyamnagar. Protestors also burnt tyres at some places.
Members of Left parties and Congress blocked a road in Barasat area of North 24 parganas district.
After ruckus between police and left students during a rally in Nabanna
in the city, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Thursday announced a 12- hour West Bengal bandh on Friday for 12 hours.
“Left calls for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal on Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM to protest today’s incident wherein left party members were beaten up and water cannons were used against them by police during march to Nabanna,” Mr Bose said in a statement condemning the event.
“The way police unleashed atrocities on the participants in the march to Nabanna, it created a situation somewhat akin to the historic Jallianwala Bagh incident,” he said in the statement.
The incident took place after Left and Congress activists demanding jobs clashed with the police in central Kolkata’s Esplanade area as they tried to break barricades on their way to state secretariat Nabanna, resulting in injuries to several participants and also the police.
Meanwhile, according to state government, "Absence will be treated as 'dies-non' & no salary will be admissible unless covered by hospitalisation of employee, bereavement in family, severe illness & absence continuing prior to February 11, employees on child care/maternity/medical leave sanctioned prior to February 11."
