Over 500 disabled students to receive vocational training

Gurgaon: In a bid to prepare disabled students to find suitable employment opportunities, the state education department is planning to hold a special training program this month. Over 500 students of the government schools will receive 10-day long vocational training in around four centres set up across the state.
Under the Samagra Siksha Program, the Haryana School Siksha Pariyojna Parishad will roll out a special vocational training program for the disabled students of classes 9 to 12 in the government schools from February 19.
Along with over 500 students, training will also be provided to nearly 90 teachers who will later pass on the training to others in their respective districts and areas where they are deputed. Termed the ‘Hunar Project’, the program will be conducted by the Fragrance and Flavor Development Centre of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The government has released a total fund of over Rs 30 lakh for the same.
“This is a skill development initiative of the Centre where all the ‘Divyang’ students are provided special training to make them industry and job-ready. This year, we are conducting the Hunar Project from February 19 and students in all 22 districts will be trained in four centres set up in Rewari, Hisar, Rohtak and Kurukshetra,” said an education department official. The department has tasked the special teachers to ensure two to three disabled students from their blocks participate in all phases of the Hunar Project.
