Guwahati, Feb 12 (UNI) The Financial Literacy Week (FLW), 2021, being conducted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a particular theme across the country, concluded today.
The theme selected for the current year FLW is “Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions”, which was observed from February 8.
This theme is one of the strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education 2020-2025, with focus on responsible borrowing; borrowing from formal institutions; and timely repayments.
The Financial Literacy Week, 2021, was inaugurated in the Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati, by Sanjeev Singha, Regional Director of RBI for the North-Eastern States through digital mode.
State Government officials, Chief General Manager, SBI, GM (O-i-C) NABARD, and representatives of major banks in the region participated in the inaugural ceremony through digital mode.
In his keynote address, the Regional Director had emphasized on the importance of credit for supporting the growth of the economy is well known.
He said credit flow to productive sectors of the economy results in proper allocation of capital, generates economic value, improves prosperity and boosts employment and added that credit discipline has to be nurtured and reinforced to ensure that credit becomes available to all, thus leading to the expansion of economic activity and growth.
He exhorted the bankers for promoting and deepening financial education focused on developing credit discipline and encouraging people to avail credit from formal institutions.
The CGM, SBI and other senior bankers expressed their views and the initiatives taken by them in this field.
The RBI, Guwahati, distributed posters in English, Hindi and Assamese, based on the theme and focal topics of the FL Week for display in all the branches across the three states of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Banks were informed to download the link provided to them for digital display as well as printing of additional posters of the FL week, an official statement said here today.
