New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed "recent protests" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a telephonic call on Wednesday, a readout of his office said.
It is not clear what the readout meant by "recent protests. "
Among other issues, it just said, "The leaders discussed Canada and India’s commitment to democratic principles, recent protests, and the importance of resolving issues through dialogue."
India, too, on Wednesday had issued a statement that did not give any information on this.
By saying "recent protests" the statement may have alluded to the farmers' protest, as Canadian leaders in recent days have voiced support to the ongoing agitation by farmers against three farm laws in India.
The Canadian statement also said the two leaders "underlined the need to work collectively in rebuilding a more sustainable and resilient global economy.
"The leaders underscored the importance of the Canada-India strategic partnership anchored in shared values, strong people-to-people ties, and growing bilateral economic cooperation. The two leaders looked forward to working together at the G7, G20, and other international forums," the statement added.
