Ghaziabad: Nearly a month after he was thrashed and robbed by two persons when his car broke down in Mohan Nagar, 59-year-old Amit Kishor Jain has been unable to get an FIR registered due to lack of clarity on police jurisdiction.
According to Jain, he was driving to his house in Link Road from the district court on January 12. He received a call from his wife around 4.30pm and told her he would reach home in an hour. “Around 5pm, I was near Mohan Nagar junction when my car broke down. I came out of the car to check it when a man and woman in their twenties, who were on a motorcycle, approached me. They offered to help me and gave me some water to drink. After drinking it, I lost consciousness,” he said. Commuters didn’t notice him due to poor visibility caused by smog, he said.
Jain said when he recovered, he found that the duo had taken his mobile phone, Rs 2,500 in cash, his ATM card and a bag which contained important documents. “They thrashed me and demanded the PIN code of my ATM card, which I told them. I was beaten up and lost consciousness again,” he added. The duo allegedly withdrew Rs 40,047 from his card the same day.
When Jain didn’t reach home by 10pm, his wife informed police. A police team arrived at Jain’s home and told them they couldn’t do much as the case fell under the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police station. His family then informed Kavi Nagar police.
Jain’s family found him the next morning at Mohan Nagar junction while searching for him. “My daughter spotted my car and I when they were going to Kavi Nagar police station. She took me to a nearby private hospital and I was discharged after two days,” he said. He has been trying to get an FIR filed since then, Jain said, but is facing problems because cops cannot agree on jurisdiction.
“We have submitted a copy of my complaint to Sahibabad police station, but they told me that the case is under the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police. When I went to Kavi Nagar police station, its SHO asked me to file a complaint in Sahibabad police station,” Jain said. Meanwhile, SP (City-2) Gyanendra Singh said they are looking into the matter. “The complainant has not approached me so far,” he said.
