Chandigarh, Feb 11 (UNI) As a part of welfare initiatives, Haryana police, since August 2015,

Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Yadava said here Thursday that considering the hardships faced by employees, we are undertaking a number of activities for their welfare. The amount was provided to the dependent family members of policemen as accidental and natural death insurance cover under an agreement inked with the Bank.
He said under the accidental insurance cover, compensation amounting to Rs 42.30 crore has been released among 163 dependent families, while financial assistance of Rs 11.04 crore has been provided to 485 dependents in natural death cases. In addition, compensation of Rs 1.45 crore has also been provided in 13 cases of Special Police Officer (SPO) death claim.
“In view of round-the-clock duty for maintaining law and order and peace even in extremely adverse circumstances, officers concerned have been constantly taking welfare initiatives including reviewing the bank agreement from time to time. Police department in consultation with the state government, have been frequently taking important decisions for the welfare of police personnel and their family members”, he added.

This facility of insurance cover has further strengthened the sense of security among policemen. Under the agreement, opening of a salary account in the bank provides insurance cover to police personnel, besides other banking facilities.
As per agreement, insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh is given to the next-of-kin of those personnel
of Haryana Special Task Force (STF) who get martyred in the line of duty. Similarly, compensation
of Rs. 30 lakh is provided to police personnel in case of accidental death and Rs 2.5 lakh for natural death. In addition, the SPO is given a compensation of Rs 15 lakh under accident death insurance cover.
Providing a huge relief to the disabled policemen, a compensation of Rs 30 lakh is given for permanent disability and Rs Five lakh for partial disability. Also, the wards of Haryana police personnel who are killed during any riot control would get school fee reimbursement of Rs One lakh per annum upto four years subject to a maximum limit of Rs Four lakh.
Taking yet another welfare step, Mr Yadav said the police had also brought its pensioners under the ambit of ‘Accidental Insurance Death Cover’ under which there is a provision for claim of
Rs 30 lakh till the age of 70 years.
It is noteworthy that a MoU was inked between Haryana police and HDFC Bank Limited in August 2015 for payment of salaries to employees through banks.
