LAC face-off: Govt withdrawing forces from advantageous positions, alleges Cong

LAC face-off: Govt withdrawing forces from advantageous positions, alleges Cong

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Congress on Thursday alleged that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government has compromised national security and territorial integrity by 'agreeing to withdraw forces at the Line of Actual Control (LAC),' where India was at an advantageous position against China.

"Why is Modi government agreeing to withdraw Indian Armed forces from dominant positions in Kailash range, where the Chinese are at a disadvantage?," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala asked.

The Congress levelled the allegation after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed Parliament that a major breakthrough has been achieved between India and China in eastern Ladakh, with both the sides initiating disengagement of troops from the southern and northern sides of Lake Pangong, on a mutual agreement basis.

Mr Surjewala alleged that the government has created a buffer zone between finger 3 and 8.

'Even in the Pangong Tso lake area, India was occupying finger 4 and patrolling up to finger 8 on the northern bank. India's stance has been clear and unequivocal -- LAC is up to finger 8,' he said.

As per the Defence Minister's statement, Indian troops will now withdraw to finger 3, he added.

Indian and Chinese forces are at a face-off since last May in eastern Ladakh.
