Clogged drain or waste pile, 16 teams will clear it in 4 hrs

Noida: The Noida Authority on Wednesday flagged off 16 quick response teams to monitor waste management across the city. Officials said the teams would aim at clearing up waste from drains within 1-4 hours of receiving a complaint from any area.
A WhatsApp number — 9717080605 — has been floated by the Authority for residents to lodge complaints. The teams, which will have contractual sanitation workers, will be divided according to the work. For instance, eight teams will be engaged in cleaning of drains, four for clearing construction and demolition waste and two each for cleaning public toilets, urinal blocks and dustbins.
“The aim is to keep the city clean and address complaints related to sanitation as quick as possible. These teams will be on the go and have been directed to address complaints within an hour of receiving them,” Ritu Maheshwari, the CEO of Noida Authority, told TOI. She added that several newly developed public toilets and large drains had been cleaned and complaints regarding their regular maintenance will now be resolved by these teams.
Meanwhile, to encourage public participation in the Swacch Survekshan and the waste management process, 10 ‘swacchta sujhav kendra’ or suggestion centres have been formed across the city. These will have representatives from the Authority and NGOs who will note the suggestions made by the residents.
The centres have been set up at H block in Sector 11, near McDonalds in Sector 18, vending zone in Sector 50, TOT mall in Sector 62, Shilp Haat in Sector 33A, Parthala market in Sector 122, Yakubpur in Sector 86, Commercial Market in Sector 104, Sector 110 market and HCL in Sector 126.
The Authority has also started an internship program under which, those enrolled in any undergraduate course can apply. The applicants can apply online and will be chosen based on their interests through an interview round..
