Kumar (43) belongs to Chromepet's Chamber's colony where he runs an eatery cum catering business and also is a member of the local traders union. A trio constantly has been nagging him and other grocers of the place to pay them monthly "protection money" or colloquially "Mamool".

Kumar not just refused to pay, also he dissuaded other from paying them as well. Riled by this, the gang threatened him. Since being the part of the union he filed a complaint against Yuvaraj, who is part of this gang. 

After being let-off by police with a warning, Yuvaraj wanted to avenge Kumar. On Wednesday night, Yuvaraj was accompanied by his son Sathishkumar (20) and his three friends along with Yuvaraj's younger brother Loganathan barged into Kumar's hotel. Violence entailed heated exchange, the gang hacked Kumar with a machete and fled.

Chromepet police rushed to spot following complaints from those in Kumar's outlet. Kumar was then hospitalised at Chromepet Government hospital and the police are on the lookout for the absconding gang.
