Following news that we'll get the ability to use Face ID while wearing a face mask and change the default music service, yet another important new feature has been spotted in the upcoming iOS 14.5 software update, which is currently in beta.
MacRumors has noted that the current beta version supports picture-in-picture for YouTube. Apple added the popular feature when iOS 14 was released in September, but to the annoyance of many users, Google chose for unknown reasons to remove support in YouTube.
Picture-in-picture should currently work in most iPhone web browsers, not just in Safari. However, it does not work if you use the official YouTube app.
We should point out at this point that it's unclear whether YouTube picture-in-picture support will remain in the final version of iOS 14.5. Given Google's actions in the past, it's entirely possible that this change is a mistake, and will be 'fixed' via a later update.
The final version of iOS 14.5 will probably be released to the public at the end of March. Here's how to update iOS when the time comes. If you want to give it a try before then, you'll need to join Apple's beta programme.
