
2021 MG Hector CVT India Launch Highlights: The MG Hector SUV has a new variant which has launched today in India. The SUV has been introduced with a new CVT automatic version for the petrol model. The same 1.5-litre petrol engine which is currently available with a 6-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic will a new see another automatic model in the offering. The engine is expected to see a marginal bump in power, however, everything else is expected to be identical to the 2021 MG Hector which was launched in January. The Hector will continue to rival the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Jeep Compass. We expect the Hector CVT model to be launched around the Rs 16 lakh mark, being offered in the higher-spec trims only.

The new Hector petrol CVT is based on the same 2021 Hector Facelift which was launched in January. It offers wireless smartphone charging, i-Smart Connected Car features, it supports 31 English, Hindi and Hinglish voice commands, the smart connected features allow the various features of the Hector to be controlled by a smartphone or smartwatch app. The Hector is also equipped with ventilated seats, larger 18-inch alloy wheels and the same interior trim as the new 2021 model year SUV.
The Hector Petrol CVT is positioned at a quite premium level. The 5-seat Hector CVT is priced between Rs 16.51 lakh and Rs 18.10 lakh.
Its competitors like the Hyundai Creta petrol CVT is priced between Rs 15.2-16.4 lakh. The Kia Seltos CVT costs between Rs 14.45 lakh to Rs 14.8 lakh and the Nissan Kicks CVT costs between Rs 13.9 lakh to Rs 14.6 lakh.

Now the MG Hector and the Hector Plus 6-seat models are available with a 1.5-lite petrol engine with three transmission options. A 6-speed manual, a 6-speed DCT and the new 8-speed CVT. Additionally, there is also a 2.0-litre turbo diesel opinion which is only offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The MG Hector and Hector Plus 5-seat will continue to be offered with the DCT as well. MG claims that the CVT is designed to offer a more comfortable driving experience. But if one is looking for a more spirited drive, the DCT would be available as well.
The MG Hector Plus will also get the CVT option. The 6-seat model will be offered with the CVT gearbox at Rs 17.21 lakh for the Smart variant and Rs 18.89 lakh for the Sharp Variant.
MG Hector CVT has been launched with the 5-seat model in two variants -- Smart - priced at Rs 16.51 lakh and Sharp for 18.09 lakh.
The CVT transmission option will be offered in the 5-seat Hector and 6-seat Hector Plus model. Prices start from Rs 16.51 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hector CVT will also feature a Sport Mode. MG Claims it will offer good mileage and a more comfortable drive, especially for everyday stop and go traffic use.

Under SAIC umbrella, rebadged versions of the MG Hector with the CVT transmission is sold in markets like China, South America and the Middle East. With the CVT transmission, the 1.5-litre petrol engine offers marginally more power, rated at 145 hp. Up from 141hp from the manual and DCT version. The torque output remains the same at 250Nm. It is possible that this exact spec of the engine would be available in India as well.
The Hector is currently available with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is available currently with a 6-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic transmission options. The higher-spec models also offer a 48V mild-hybrid system. Now, MG will also introduce the same engine with a CVT automatic option as well today.
The 2021 MG Hector when it was updated brought along many feature updates. In mid-January, MG India launched the 2021 Model-Year Hector. The SUV was refreshed with a touch of styling tweaks. But added many new features to remain competitive against the competition. The Hector CVT is expected to be based on the same vehicle.
In late January 2021, a survey found that along with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the MG Hector promised the best resale value. The MG Hector offers the highest resale value (around 90% in one year) within the C-Segment SUVs.
