CHENNAI: Former Chennai Corporation deputy mayor and former south Chennai district president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Karate R Thiagarajan joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s national general secretary C T Ravi and state president L Murugan during a public meeting in Mylapore on Thursday.
Thiagarajan, who has been suspended from the TNCC a year ago following a rift with party leaders ahead of the local body polls, along with his supporters joined the saffron party and vowed to work hard to ensure the defeat of the DMK party in the forthcoming assembly elections. Thiagarajan was a close confidante of the former Union finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram.
Murugan convinced Thiagarajan to join the BJP to take on the DMK.
Earlier, late actor Sivaji Ganesan’s elder son Ramkumar Ganesan joined the BJP. Ramkumar’s son Dushyanth Ramkumar also joined the party on the occasion.
