Stalker arrested for threatening to throw acid on Chennai schoolgirl’s face

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old cab driver has been arrested for threatening to throw acid on a schoolgirl’s face at Pallavaram in Chennai.
Before Covid-19 outbreak, Nagaraj of Pammal had stalked the girl for over a year when she went to school. He proposed to marry her. Upset by his move, she warned him to stay away. Since the accused refused to listen to her pleas, she complained to her mother.
When schools remained shut during the pandemic, he traced her address and stalked her in her neighbourhood. “He kept following the girl whenever she came out of her house,” said an investigating officer.
On Monday, the girl brought her mother to warn the stalker. On Tuesday, while she was spotted alone, he stalked her again and threatened to throw acid on her face.
The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with Tambaram all-women police. The police traced Nagaraj and booked him under the POCSO Act. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
